Sustainability
Energy-efficient design, native vegetation, and low-impact materials run through every decision. Our property borders protected land — and we intend to keep it that way.
Faros da Ría · Cangas, Galicia
This project
Faros da Ría is Cangas' first sustainable holiday apartment project — built for travellers who care about where they stay and why they travel.
Faros da Ría began with a simple but powerful idea: that a stay somewhere truly special should leave both guest and place better than it found them. Not just a comfortable apartment, but a thoughtful encounter with Galicia — its light, its coast, its culture, and its people.
We built on a hillside above the protected coastline of Nerga, Cangas, where the eucalyptus and pine forests meet the edge of the Ría de Vigo. A position of remarkable privilege — and, we believe, remarkable responsibility. So we designed with that in mind: using energy-efficient systems, native planting, and sustainable materials to build something that belongs here, not just something placed here.
This is the Rías Baixas at its most honest: wild and refined, ancient and alive. And it is the backdrop against which we invite you to pause, to breathe, and to stay a little longer than you planned.
What we stand for
Every decision at Faros da Ría is guided by the same four commitments.
Energy-efficient design, native vegetation, and low-impact materials run through every decision. Our property borders protected land — and we intend to keep it that way.
We collaborate with Cangas fishermen, artisan food producers, and small businesses — actively promoting the traditions, flavours, and stories of the Morrazo peninsula.
Natural materials, clean lines, intuitive comfort — so that guests arrive and immediately exhale. No noise, no excess. Just the sea, the light, and a space that earns its place.
One of our key goals is to help deseasionalise tourism in the region — welcoming guests who seek the drama of autumn waves, winter calm, and spring wildflowers as much as July sun.
How it came to be
The idea
Sabela and Cris found the place — elevated above Cangas, surrounded by protected forest, looking out over the Ría de Vigo and especially the Islas Cíes. They saw not just a view, but a responsibility to build something worthy of it.
The design
Every element of the project was designed with sustainability at its core — from passive energy systems and thermal insulation to native planting and minimal site disruption. Three apartments, each distinct in size and character.
The recognition
The project received support from the Grupo de Acción Local del Sector Pesqueiro (GALP) — recognition of its alignment with the blue economy goals of the Rías Baixas: diversifying coastal tourism, supporting local producers, and creating stable, dignified employment.
The opening
The first guests arrived — and with them, the understanding that what had been a personal vision was now something shared. A place where the sea, the forest, and Galician culture could be experienced slowly, intentionally, and with care.
Tourism that gives back to the landscape and the people who call it home — that is what Faros da Ría was built to be.
