Garcíes Riobó

Faros da Ría was born as a different kind of tourism proposal—one committed to sustainability, the local environment, and respect for the maritime culture of Cangas. We are a young initiative, led by local female entrepreneurs, firmly convinced that a different way of traveling and building is possible. This section tells our story, introduces our partnerships and commitments, and highlights the public support that has helped make this dream a reality.

Faros da Ría is a sustainable tourist apartment project located in the heart of the Ría de Vigo, driven by a deep passion for the Galician coast and the need to offer more responsible tourism alternatives. The initiative began in 2023 with the goal of transforming a family home into an environmentally conscious lodging that promotes the local economy and celebrates the culture of the sea.

From its architectural design—based on Passive House standards—to the use of recycled and repurposed materials, every aspect of the project has been developed with environmental impact in mind. We believe in a tourism model where visitors feel like part of the place, not just spectators.

Our commitment goes far beyond energy efficiency. Faros da Ría actively collaborates with local associations and projects to create a positive impact that reaches beyond tourism.

We’ve signed partnership agreements with entities such as Pesca Subrido S.L., to promote activities related to coastal fishing and raise awareness about responsible fish consumption; Redeiras do Baixo Miño Atalaia, to incorporate local handmade crafts into our apartments and; ANPA Compañía de María, to develop environmental education initiatives and beach cleanup activities.

We believe in a business model rooted in the local area, with partnerships that promote fairer, more balanced, and sustainable development. Our commitment is strong: we want the success of the project to directly contribute to improving the quality of life in our region.

    Subvenciones recibidas

Subvención do Grupo de Acción Local do Sector Pesqueiro (GALP)

At Faros da Ría, we are very proud to have received funding that helps make our sustainable tourism project in Cangas a reality. This support will allow us to build three tourist apartments with a 1-key classification, designed according to sustainability criteria and offering a product that meets the growing demand for responsible tourism in our community.

Objectives, expected outcomes, and key activities:

    • Creation of two female job positions, supporting the local economy by working with traditional fishing and other key sectors.
    • Promotion of sustainable tourism year-round, helping to reduce seasonality in the region.
    • Construction of the first sustainable tourist apartments in Cangas.
    • Supporting local producers by showcasing and offering tastings of their products.
    • Encouraging a diversified and sustainable tourism offer through services and activities that enhance the visitor experience.

This project is also aligned with the strategic goals of the Grupo de Acción Local do Sector Pesqueiro (GALP), particularly the aim of supporting the blue economy through diversification and job creation, as well as promoting high-quality tourism in coastal and fishing areas.

    Subvención Galicia Emprega

This project is also supported by the Galicia Emprega program, aimed at promoting local employment and quality job opportunities.

We are grateful for the trust placed in our project and will continue working with dedication to contribute to the sustainable development of our region.
